Repeat Prescriptions

To help ensure you don’t run out of medication, please request your prescription in good time. We need at least two working days  to process requests, and your pharmacy will need additional time to prepare your medication once it has been sent.

For best results, please order your prescription about one week before it runs out , but not more than two weeks before it is due.

One-off treatments are not part of your repeat medication - requests for renewals will need to be reviewed by a clinician, after contacting us online.

We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone. Please also note that the online consultation service is not the appropriate way to request repeat medication.

Ordering a Repeat Prescription

Please use NHS App or Patient Access to order your repeat prescripion. When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.

Here’s how to request your medication:

Request in advance

Use the NHS App or visit your pharmacy in person to request your repeat medication at least one week but no more than two weeks before your current supply runs out.

Processing time

Please allow 2 working days for us to process your prescription request. Once processed, the pharmacy will need additional time to prepare your medication.

Notification from pharmacy

After submitting your request, wait for a text message from the pharmacy to confirm when your prescription is ready for collection. If you have not received this notification one week after submitting your request, please contact your pharmacy directly to check the status of your medication.

One-off treatments

These are not part of your repeat prescription. If you need a one-off treatment, a clinician will need to review your request. Please contact us online to request this.

Important

We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone. However, you can still submit written requests in person via the box in reception. However, using the NHS App or your pharmacy for requests is preferred. Please note that online consultation service is not the appropriate way to request repeat medication.

Medication Review

When your medication review is due, we will invite you for a telephone appointment. A medication questionnaire may be sent before the appointment.

You do not need to contact us for most medication reviews, unless one of our team asks you to submit an online consultation to speak to a GP.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

When going abroad you can take your NHS medications with you.

Please visit the NHS website for the latest Prescription Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

Synchronising your medications

If you find you are having to order different items at different times, we can help with that. We understand the benefit of synchronising your medications so they all run out at the same time. This will reduce the number of times you have to order your repeat prescriptions and visit the surgery and/or the pharmacy.

To achieve this, we will issue you a one-off prescription with enough of each of your medicines to add to the ones remaining at home, bringing them all into line. After that, they should all run out at the same time, and you will be able to order them all together from now on. Please note that there are certain types of medication where synchronisation is not possible/appropriate.
