Physio App for our patients

Physiotherapy App (powered by getUBetter) is provided free of charge by Southwark for patients registered at Forest Hill Road Group Practice. It can be accessed on a Smartphone or on the Web and guides you day-by-day through a sequence of exercises and tips to help you recover from a range of new or recurrent musculoskeletal conditions:

  • Lower back pain
  • Back and leg pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Ankle Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Soft Tissue Lower Limb Pain
  • Hip Pain

GPs can refer by sending you a message or patients can self-refer. Please note: Patients will need an email address to register.

If a patient develops another condition, they can select their new condition from within the app and it will be added to their account.

The app will also connect to your local treatment, healthcare providers or support services, if needed, such as Physiotherapy.

 

Strength and balance classes for fall prevention

Free exercise classes for Lambeth and Southwark residents, who have had a fall or are worried about falling, but continue to get out and about locally. The classes follow a programme of specific exercises designed to improve your strength, balance and confidence when walking.

The classes are run once a week for one hour and led by trained instructors, are available at convenient locations across Lambeth and Southwark. Please call Strength and Balance helpline: 020 3049 5424.

 

Stable and Steady classes

Free Stable and Steady classes help to improve strength and balance, reduce the risk of falling. The classes are for Lewisham residents aged 65 and over, who have fallen or are concerned that they have become more unsteady. Weekly classes last one hour for 25 weeks, are led by instructors who are trained in teaching falls management exercises to older adults. Please call 020 3049 4493 to join.

 

Free Your Mind: Take the #BeWellChallenge

rtnership Southwark is asking people in Southwark to participate in the #BeWellChallenge. Take simple steps to improve and promote good mental health and wellbeing. Small things, including acts of kindness, volunteering, being active, connecting with friends and pursuing a hobby can make a positive difference to our mental health and wellbeing. To take part in the #BeWellChallenge, simply to do something that is good for your wellbeing and share it with others via your WhatsApp groups and/or on social media.

The #BeWellChallenge is part of the south east London-wide Free Your Mind campaign. It has been developed with support from South London Listens.

Minor Eye Clinic Service (MECS)

Do you know that specially accredited local optometrists are now looking after your medical eye condition? They provide assessment for many common eye conditions through your local opticians. This service was established by your local NHS Authority for patients of all ages who are registered with a GP within South East London boroughs.

Medical eye conditions that can be treated by MECS

  • Sudden or recent reduction in vision in one or both eyes
  • Red eye(s) or eye lids
  • Pain and / or discomfort in the eyes, around the eye area or temples
  • Recent onset or sudden increase of flashes and / or floaters in one or both eyes (appears like a fly, black specks or a cobweb moving across your vision)
  • Mild trauma, for example a scratch to the outer surface of the eye(s) or lid(s)
  • Suspected foreign body in the eye
  • Recent onset of double vision
  • Significant recent discharge from or watering of the eye

The optometrist will discuss your eye history, any symptoms you may be experiencing and any related medical history. You will receive an eye assessment relevant to your symptoms and can be referred to a hospital service if needed.

  • you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency.
  • you think you might need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
  • you don’t know who to call or you don’t have a GP to call
